A live studio recording with E.J. Gold & Robert Sheckley
In 1999, legendary sci-fi author Robert Sheckley visited his longtime friend E.J. Gold, son of H.L. Gold—the founding editor of Galaxy Science Fiction Magazine, one of the three great pillars of 1950s science fiction publishing.
Sheckley’s own career launched in 1953 when he was first published in Galaxy. At that time, young E.J., a precocious and perceptive child, was already assisting his father by reading through the infamous "slush pile," plucking out promising stories worthy of a second look. Writers often stopped by H.L. Gold’s home office to discuss their work, giving E.J. a front-row seat to the golden age of sci-fi and the brilliant minds who shaped it.
Decades later, with that rich shared history behind them, Sheckley and Gold stepped into E.J.'s home recording studio with his engineer to capture a candid, hilarious, and deeply insightful conversation on “How to Overcome Writer’s Block.”
Now available for download, this rare and spirited exchange is both a balm for the creatively stuck and a joyful ride through the minds of two irrepressibly original thinkers. Whether you're a writer in need of inspiration or simply someone who delights in brilliant conversation, this recording is not to be missed.
